In Conversation with Florian Gallenberger

Florian Gallenberger has returned to China to present his new feature film “Colonia” with Emma Watson and Daniel Brühl. In this film, the Oscar winner casts an unshrinking look at the dark events of German-Chilean history. As early as 2009, the director and script author made a name for himself in China with his film “John Rabe”, which was filmed in China and thematised the war crimes of the Japanese occupiers in the then-capital city of Nanjing, and in doing so working through a major national trauma. We wish to know how he experienced his time in China, how he has been doing since then, and above all how he came upon the narrative for his new film. In conversation with Chinese filmmakers, we shall investigate this and other questions.
